CRG: What do you believe are the most relevant issues facing Josephine county right now? What would be your six months plan to tackle those issues?

Oh, the county's in turmoil. And one of the reasons I stepped up, I did not plan to run for commissioner. I'm on the city council. And so I've gotten experience in public service life, and I enjoy it. And I've learned how government works, and I've settled into that. this past year or so, and I'm also on the RCC Board of Education. So I have a feel now for government as well as private business.

Okay, so I jumped in because my beloved county is a wreck in turmoil and I can't stand it. And I look at candidates running and I know that I'm more qualified and I could really help turn our county around. And that's why I jumped in. I think what we've been going through the last few years is horrendous. And we need to be listening to the people of our county and what they want and set our priorities, which aren't your self-interest.

So public safety is huge. I believe the county should focus on essential services. And I am conservative in that way. Public safety, infrastructure. I think there’s no reason we shouldn't have broadband all over the rural counties. I travel and I was just in North Carolina in the country with little counties- they never a problem. They have it solved! I don't get why we can't solve these issues here. And I would work to solve those kind of issues.

Housing, is huge too. We've got to find a way to make more affordable housing. And I'm not talking about low income housing, but just workforce housing. And for young people who are graduating and getting jobs and they can't afford to live here anymore. So housing's important. And then of course, the economy. We've got to bring businesses into our county so we have jobs for our people.

My six months plan? I would, well, I need to get in and really, I only have a peripheral view. I've talked with the commissioners about what's going on. I know right now they are just working to clean up a mess that they went into. So I would go in and see what the specific issues are. I know there's a lot of personnel issues and lawsuits. I think that would be a priority really to get, to build the team again. Morale must be horrible there. So that's one of the first things I would tackle is building morale, building the team, getting the personnel straightened out, and then move forward from there.
