There's a Josephine County ballot measure that will be going before voters in May 2024 that looks to restructure county government in a positive way. It's the work of a nonpartisan group called Josephine County Citizens for Responsible Government
Three features of the ballot measure quickly emerge as improvements over the current system, and voters should take note of them:
The number of county commissioners would increase from three to five, they would be scaled back from full-time to part-time, and their current pay levels would be significantly reduced.
Four of the five commissioners would represent geographical areas in the county and a fifth would be an at-large seat.
All elected offices in Josephine County would remain nonpartisan, and the reworked county charter would plainly state as much.
