March 3 is last day to file if you are an incumbent (this includes new appointees to commissioner position)
March 10 is last day for a non-incumbent candidate to file
And…
- If only one candidate files by the deadline, that person is considered elected and doesn’t appear on the ballot.
- If only two candidates meet the deadline, they both advance to the November ballot and do not appear on the primary ballot in May
- If there are three or more candidates who meet the deadline, they will all appear on the primary (May) ballot. Then the top two will advance to the November election. However, if one candidate receives 50% plus 1 vote, that candidate is elected, and the rest go home.
- Because commissioner positions are non-partisan, ALL voters may vote to select commissioners.
